Technical/Professional Writing

Career Profile Report

My introduction to professional writing culminated in this project, the purpose of which was to compile a formal report on the educational and skill requirements of two writing professions: English Professor and Screenwriter. I was in charge of writing up the sections on the responsibilities and requirements needed to be considered a formidable screenwriter.

Social Media Guide

As part of a class focused on successful utilization of social media for professional organizations (in this class’s case, a nonprofit organization), me and a group of four other students produced a social media guidebook for the organization’s use after our work with them had finished. Another student an myself were responsible for the Instagram section of the guidebook.

Electronic Editing

During my time at the University of Delaware, I took a class on editing a wide range of documents – from simple text-only documents like press releases or memos to more complex ones like newspaper articles and web sites. For electronic editing, the class primarily focused on how to edit documents in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. The document linked above shows my skills in using Word to edit documents as well as my understanding of more advanced Word techniques and uses, such as creating and using custom Styles and using Word’s Review and Track Changes features.

Paper-based Editing

While it may not be needed as much as electronic editing, the editing class I took did spend time discussing and practicing paper-based editing. The link above is a scanned image of the paper-based markup I did for one of the editing assignments.
